Mark Lunney one of the stars of a terrific 2009 season of Irish short circuit racing will be presented with his Two (it was so very nearly Three) Irish championship Trophies this Friday night at the Ulster Centre awards night dinner in the La Mon House Hotel.
But there is no room for celebrations with Lunney who despite one of his best ever racing season's finds himself with a lack of sponsorship for the 2010 season due to the amicable withdrawal of funding from last seasons sponsor Gary Ryan (Street Sweep).
Speaking of his 2010 plans Lunney said "I do not really have many confirmed plans for this year due to a lack of sponsorship really. Last season I was really well looked after by Team Street Sweep (Gary Ryan), whom I once again would like to thank for their help, supplying me with a 250 and 600 and not having to worry about running costs. However with Ireland's recession still biting Street Sweep have had to make cut backs leaving me without their backing for 2010. I returned the faith they put in me by winning races on the 600 and having a superb 250cc season. For 2010 I have still got the 125 and have to thank team KRB for that, but with having to look after race entry fees and Tyre bill's etc its looking bleak for this year. It's a shame that after having one of my best years to date last year, that it might come to nothing this season. I feel I have still got plenty to offer, and have a bit of unfinished business in the 600 class".
