Ryan Takes Joey's Record PDF Print E-mail

ryankillalane09.jpgRyan Farquhar continued his dominance of the 2009 road racing season, once again achieving a treble at the Country Crest Killalane National Road Races, the penultimate round of the Duke Road Race Rankings Series.

Not content with collecting another three laurel wreaths, he broke Joey Dunlop’s long-standing record of 119 national road race victories during the event and increased his tally to 121 wins ‘between the hedges’.

With the weather set fair, some excellent racing was witnessed with the spoils of victory being shared between the Dungannon Flyer, the Dunlop brothers, Michael and William and in his début season on the roads, Michael Pearson.

Ryan’s final tally was three wins; one second place and a tenth in the Grand Final. Michael Dunlop had one race victory along with four second places. William achieved a double in the 125 & 250cc races and added a third and two fourth places, whilst Michael Pearson took the honours in the Grand Final, adding two third places and a fourth to his cv at the end of the meeting, having achieved his first major national road race win at the beginning of July taking the Cock o’the North trophy at Oliver’s Mount.

The twenty-fourth and final round of the Duke Road Race Rankings Series 2009, takes place at the Steve Henshaw International Gold Cup Road Races at Oliver's Mount, Scarborough, this coming weekend, 19th & 20th September.
