2009 sees the annual return of the Faugheen 50 Road Race to Carrick-on-Suir, Co. Tipperary. Roads close at 1p.m. sharp on Sat 25th and 11a.m. sharp on Sunday 26th July. Racing starts promptly both days so be early to get a good vantage point.
Club members are already working tirelessly to ensure that spectators, marshals and competitors have a safe and enjoyable race day. New club members are always welcome. There is a lot of work to do in preparation for the event not just on the day itself. Meetings take place every Wes night in Moloney’s pub, Skough @ 8p.m.
Racing fans will be delighted to know that this year they will have a chance to win a lap around the Faugheen 50 circuit with Ryan Farquhar. Ryan is one Irelands top racers and is no stranger to Faugheen where he has been Championship Winner and Man of the Meeting on numerous occasions. Tickets are €5 and are available from any club member. Draw will take place at the Kells Road Race to ensure the winner has the appropriate leathers and helmet on the day.
Faugheen’s race is a very important event nationally as it is staged in the middle of the All Ireland Championship when the battle for points is well underway and the race to be All Ireland Champion is very close between the leaders. All the top contenders for the championship will be competing at Faugheen. The club would like to wish our own members John Walsh, Davy Coughlan, Alan O’Dwyer, James Cooney and Tim Maher the best of luck for a successful race day.
Our continued thanks to the residents of Faugheen, South Tipperary County Council, our programme and race sponsors, dedicated club members and anyone who plays a part in making our race the success it has become. Without your support this event would not be possible.
We look forward to seeing everyone on Race Day and remind spectators to please obey the Marshals at all times. For further information please contact any club member, Carol 087-4134208 or visit our website www.faugheen50roadraces
