Irwin aiming to 田o-ordit馬ate his future in British Championships PDF Print E-mail
Written by Baylon McCaughey

Teenage sensation Glenn Irwin, who scored another double at Bishopscourt on Saturday last on board the Slemish Waters 600 suzuki hopes to make his British Championship debut this weekend at Snetterton.

There is no doubt, that the performances of this lad so far this year have been nothing short of phenomenal, and this has led to Glenn being offered a chance to ride for Team Co-Ordit , in the British 600 Superstock championship, Team Co-Ordit is owned by Pete Bradshaw, himself no mean competitor.

Irwin, who has been a relevance this season in the 600 Irish championships, and is now only seven points behind championship leader Mark Lunney.

It will be a change of machinery for Glenn, as he will be riding the teams 600 yamaha, which has been vacated by Leon Hunt, who has moved to the Triumph series.

For Glenn, this is the chance he has been looking for, and he intends to prove his worth.

To day (Tuesday), along with friend and rival, Richard Rea, they are both going to Donington to take part in  the Ron Haslam Race shool.

He will also get to meet Team Co-Ordit members and be able to familiarise himself with the bike which he will be riding, although he will not be able to get out on it , because to day is a Honda day at Donington!.

This will be Glenns first race at British Championship level, obviously a steep learning curve for the Carrickfergus lad, but, Glenn is aiming to make the most of his chance.

Team Co-Ordit.

Who are Team Co-Ordit?

Team Co-Ordit is a Race team, owned by Pete Bradshaw, MD of his own Building Services Business.

His team consists of seven riders, Four of whom are in BSB. Richard Cooper , Bruce Wilson, Dave Hallet and  for this weekend, Glenn Irwin.

Pete is Passionate about his racing, and his love for the sport resulted in the birth of his race team.

“We have eight riders with myself, our own workshops and two full time mechanics to run the Co-ordit Performance Centre etc, and  I am passionate about racing. I’m also committed to develop the youth in the sport with the co-ordit relay championships in 2 club series which results in a racer having a ride with us at BSB. Last year, my team gave 6 other riders, Richard Cooper, Jimmy Storrar etc in the R1 Cup series to find a talented rider who we would run this year. Glenn wont be the first Irish rider in the team, Mick Daly is Irish born, but now resides on the mainland rode for the team  in  2007 at Mondello Park.

How did we make contact with Glenn Irwin?

Well lets just say, i have a few influential friends in racing, and one of them noticed the results at the Thundersport round at Oulton Park, where Glenn blitzed the opposition on his debut.

This put him on our radar, and with Glenn producing the goods at his home championship at the weekend, coupled with the fact that Leon Hunt, who was unable to fulfil his contract for us in the 600 British Superstock championship, has moved to take a spare seat with Triumph , thus leaving  this bike available for this weekend at Snetterton.

I contacted Glenn, and we quickly got things sorted, and as I said earlier, I pride myself in developing Youth in the sport, so, heres hoping that we can work with Glenn and help him to achieve his goal.

According to my scouts, I believe Glenn is just as passionate about his racing as I am, so maybe we can build on this”

Glenn Irwin;” I am looking forward to this weekend, it will be a steep learning curve for me, but I will be aiming to make the most of it.

I cant thank everyone enough that has helped me this year, Noel and Walter of Slemish Waters racing have been awesome to me and i hope to repay them with the Irish Supersport and Supersport cup 600 titles.”
