The stylish McCullough, or “Supermac” as he was known, was virtually unbeatable in the 250cc and 350cc classes on his superbly-prepared Yamahas.

The undoubted highlight of a long and brilliant career was his stunning victory over a star-studded field in the 250cc race at the 1971 Ulster Grand Prix. In tricky conditions, McCullough cleared off to show a clean pair of heels to riders of the calibre of Phil Read, Jarno Saarinen, Dieter Braun, Rodney Gould, Peter Williams and Steve Machin.
