Robert Dunlop.
John Reynolds won the championship from Robert Dunlop who was riding the Norton and Rob McElnea who both had the same amount of points. Terry Rymer was fourth, Brian Morrison fifth and Jim Whitham was sixth.
Robert Dunlop was born in Ballymoney in County Antrim in 1960 and 19 years later he decided to follow brothers Jim and Joey into the world of racing and during the next thirty years he notched up an amazing tally of wins, Being the most successful North West 200 rider with 15 wins.
A crash in 1994 at the Isle of Man TT on a 750cc Honda nearly ended his life, but after three years of physio and a painful recovery, he returned determined to carry on and race. Robert was restricted to the 125cc class from then on but that didn't stop him, four years after his crash he won the 125cc TT and Ulster Grand Prix in 1998 and many wins after that..
Robert was a sensational road racer winning 111 Irish National road races, 5 Isle of Man TT's, 9 Ulster Grand Prix's, 8 Dundrod 150's and 12 wins on the Isle of Man Billown Circuit just some to mention.
He was also a sensational short circuit racer aswell winning 18 Irish Short Circuit Championships the 125cc British Championship and of course finishing 2nd in the 750cc British Championship. Not forgetting the Macau Grand Prix win in 1989.
