Local bikers raise £18,725.12 for medical team PDF Print E-mail
Written by Alan Armstrong

A group of local motor bike enthusiasts can take a well deserved pat on the back after handing over a cheque for £18,725.12p to the motor cycle union of Ireland (US).

The money was raised through sponsorship as well as a number of fund - raising events culminating in eight bikers riding from Malin Head to Mizin Head.

Organisers William Munnis and Gordon Wilson form part of the Coast to Coast Team and their enthusiasm for the sport coupled with their determination to contribute to the medical fund ensured such a high amount.

Members began the collection by taking part in a local Marks and Spencer's store followed by participating in the Motor Cycle show at the Kings Hall in Belfast. A further show in Ballymoney had the presence of the team and a fire side quiz preceded a chat show attended by Fred Mc Sorely and John Hinds and specialist’s bike photographer, Stephen Davidson.

A dance and auction at Ballymoney Rugby Club as well as the sponsorship for the Malin head /Mizin head ride meant that a total of £18,725.12p was raised.

The money was handed over at the recent North West Event and gratefully acknowledged by The Motor Cycle Union.

Mr Munnis ,a spokes person for the team:

Wwithout the generosity an co-operation of the general public it would not have been possible to raise as much.We are generally grateful to every one who contributed in any way to the fund. It is important to put as much money towards the Medical Team so that riders and spectators benefit" he said.

Organisers William Munnis and Gordon Wilson and part of the Coast to Coast medical team presented the Cheque to Dr John Hinds M.C.U.I Medical team, afterward Dr Hinds:

“This is what keeps us afloat; this is what we need to keep the team stocked up. People say that the road racing could not run without the Medical team, its just that the Medical team could not run without the Coast to Coast Team! And we cannot thank them enough”.

Missing from the above photo were Coast to Coast Team members Ray Porter , Alan Hinds and Victor Gourley.

The Coast to Coast team have said they plan to run further events.

If anyone would like to contribute towards the Coast to Coast Medical Fund Cheques can be made payable to Coast to Coast Medical Fund and sent to C/o Gordon Wilson 24 Oakland Heights, Castlederg, Co Tyrone BT81 7XQ.
