Why not reflect on the year with a look at season 2008

which was a pretty good one on the whole, retaining the North East Minitwin Championship & Michael Moore Trophy, finishing second in the Sound of Thunder Championship & the Ken Redfern Trophy and set three new class lap records at Croft, Olivers Mount and East Fortune so not bad at all. The Kawasaki Newcastle ER6 never missed a beat all season and I’ve enjoyed riding it so much that I can’t wait to get my hands on the new model next year.
My trip to Scarborough in September probably saw the 'swansong' of the modified ZX10, it was a right handfull round the Mount and whilst not slow, is becoming, at three years old, slightly uncompetitive.

Never look back, you always see something you shouldn't
However, all was not lost, we had a belting weekend and I managed to break the MiniTwin lap record three times chasing a very quick Kwacka400, but all will be revealed in the coming write up (in 2008 season).
On Bank Holiday Monday I completed the C2C coast to coast cycle ride from Whitehaven to Sunderland, 140 miles with 20 other stalwarts raising sponsorship money in aid of 11 year old cancer victim Lewis Scott and the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) Childrens Cancer Unit in Newcastle.
Lewis’s 13 year old brother Connor gamely completed the arduous trip with us, along with his father Dave, a long time friend.
I have known Lewis all his life and we all wish him well, it is comforting to know all the fund raising will go to a very good cause.
I'm off to the Manx GP tuesday for a bit of a family holiday whilst supporting Mike Minns and all the other NEMCRC lads competing on the Island and good fortune to them all.

Croft got off to a good start with dry racing over the weekend ( there's a change) and three MiniTwin wins gave me the Club Championship again.
I also lost out to Irishman Kirk Jamison for the Ken Redfern trophy by .09secs (half a wheel) after missing a gear out of the final hairpin, but as my dad said 'you need to hit them all'.
I didn't intend to race the Sound of Thunder but was persuaded and following good results am now second in the Championship by only 8 points and looking forward to East Fortune

Leading Lougher at Olivers Mount in July
We are still with Kawasaki Newcastle this year thanks to owner Dave Winfield, with a brand new ER6 and the 06' ZX10 I crashed at the NW200 last year, albeit modified for my 'cattled' hand.

My injuries still prevent me riding a drop bar bike and the top-yoke and Pro-Taper high bars have been fitted to the ZX10, which my dad has christened 'Mongo's Monster' after the bull rider in Blazing Saddles.

Hope to see you sometime in the paddock, David.
