Road racing in Europe food for though 3 Months, 1 Week ago
In reading on a czech website, motorkari, it would seem that some people are alredy aiming to get a Czech roadracing championship after the success of Terlicko at the weekend. They now have three races and from my translation it looks like there may be another one in the planning. It is great to see that after all the years of reducing road racing to just a few countries it may be on the up, Belguim are the one country bucking the trait, with Ostende now the only race for modern bikes. I think sites like this one and others have a lot to do with it, The UGP, TT and NW are relatively well known abroad but the "smaller" races are now coming to the attention of those in mainland Europe, even to those in GB.

But with easier transport and communications I can see a euorpean championship, weather officail or unofficial coming to fruition within the next few years, there is already the Three Nations Cup, with Dutch German and Belguim riders.
I would not think that the TT could not be involved as it is too costly and for riders to give up two to three weeks, but there would be no reason why Jurby or Billown could not be used, the same for the UGP and NW as they can stand on their own feet. (insults, squeals of disproval etc. will be welcomed)
If this was to happen I would like a different circuit picked each year from each the countries involved. We could have Germany, Nederlands,Croatia, Czech, Belguim, NI, ROI, IOM, England, I think there is still one "street race" still in Spain, although only for the smaller classes. I do not think there is any unsurmountable legal reason why a race cannot be held in Scotland or Wales, or another one in England, a few years ago a race near to being held in Anglessly, I think the enthusiasm dried up after one of the main organisers was killed in a road accident. With the devolved governments in Scotland and Wales and the incentive of tourists may make it easier.
I think that someone here (in these islands) should take the bull by the horns and be in at the start and not let us be left behind when it does happen, and I think it will in some form.
I know it was all tried before with the Formula series but with the right sponsorship and TV companies (eurosport has lost the MotoGP) involved I think it could work this time.

What do you think?

I think this is a great idea in principle, but it would spell the end of road racing in Ireland.

If the top riders competed in this, the road racing scene would surely die. Also there is the issue of money. Many riders can just about cope with the cost of racing in ireland, but racing in a different place each week would require a unbelievable amount of money.

Couldn't agree more scrz. I think this year has proved that road racing, if done properly, is now safer than the circuits. Why wouldn't it be on the up?

I don't think it would spell the end of Irish road racing,in the past many of our top riders,Bryans,Robb,Herron,Bell,Millar,Dunlops,McCallan have plied their trade in England or further afield and it wasn't the end. In fact I think it encouraged some riders to compete so that they could emulate their heros. With the GPs now out of reach except to the selected few it would give todays riders a chance to pit their skills against others.
The cost, now that is a completly different thing, but If BSB can get sponsorship then the superior attraction of road racing on TV would bring in even more.

As I said before, I beliver it will happen, but will Irish road racing take the opportunity or will we bury our heads in the sand.

it sounds unbelievable great, and i think it is possible to run such series, but...with growing strengh of vots 'for' grows in the same time strenght of votes 'against'. It will again start the debate about safety, meaby not in Ireland or Czech Rep. but international TV broadcast will cause more attenion, not only of people who love road racing.

...in planning future we should on first place establish the actual state of affairs, to not impair it, even if we have the best intesions
