I Was Thinking The Same, Its All Very Quiet With Just Over A Week To Go, Apart From Farquhar And Cummins, I Haven't Heard Any Official News About Who Will Be Racing This Year.

The plan was following Gary's Skerries spill to be back for the Ulster. There's no point rushing a collar bone injury if you don't have to. The plan remains for Gary to be at Dundrod.

Martin secures 600cc ride for UGP

from BBC Ni website

Guy Martin will ride a 600cc Honda sponsored by Wilson Craig at next week's Ulster Grand Prix at Dundrod.

The Lincolnshire rider has agreed a deal to ride the bike, in addition to the Hydrex Hondas he will ride in the Superbike and Superstock events.

Martin has not competed in the 600cc class since the Isle of Man TT in June, opting to compete only on a Superbike at the Southern 100 races in July.

The Kirmington rider has five Ulster Grand Prix wins, four of them in 2006.

He has yet to register a victory in an international road race this season, having suffered mechanical failures while leading the feature event at the North West 200 and the TT Superbike race

Belfast Telegraph

Martin aims high for Ulster Grand Prix
By Jimmy Walker
Wednesday, 6 August 2008
Fast-talking, likeable Lincolnshire rider Guy Martin is not named after Guy Fawkes even though he was born on November 4.
"Everybody thinks that," said Martin, "but really my dad Ian named me after one of his heroes Guy Gibson who led the famous Dambusters raid with 617 Squadron in 1943. "Gibson and his crew flew out of Lincolnshire not far from where I live and he is obviously a hero in these parts."
Martin meanwhile while he would accept that both Guy Fawkes and Guy Gibson were in the bomb business – Gibson helped blow up three German dams in the famous raid – reckons he can throw a few missiles himself at high speed when he rides in the Belfast Telegraph Ulster Grand Prix later this month.
"As far as I am concerned the Ulster Grand Prix is my favourite race," said Martin – and why not, for Martin scored a memorable four wins in 2006 and added another success last year which when added to a couple of first places in the Dundrod 150 put him at the head of the league in recent years and made him a star.
"I never really thought about that," said Guy. "I’m only a newcomer on this scene for I’m 25 years old but certainly you can take it from me that the Ulster Grand Prix provides my favourite circuit in that Dundrod has no stupid chicanes and is a flowing track. It’s ideal for my style and I’m certainly hoping to do the business later this month."
Martin added that while he also had a great liking for the North West 200 he felt that too many riders "came for the beer" and that wasn’t his scene. "It’s really a weekend out for most of them and their main concentration is on the Isle of Man TT a couple of weeks later," he said.
As far as the North West is concerned Martin has yet to score a win there but he was close this year for his best placing was second in the opening superbike race won by Michael Rutter and he had a brake problem when leading the race.
Then in the final superbike race of the day he was leading by eight seconds but his machine "blew up" and it was left to Steve Plater to score another success giving him three on the day.
Martin added: "I never seem to get any luck at this meeting for I had a big crash in the 600cc class at Black Hill.
"This North West performance was a part of what I regard as my worst season to date. What promised to be exceptional turned out to be a nothing series of races. I didn’t want to wreck myself before the Isle of Man TT and I held a lot in reserve when I was riding at the North West.
"But at the TT I had more machine problems and I never managed to get into the action. Still, the TT remains my main objective and hopefully I’ll do much better when I compete there next year.
"As for the Ulster Grand Prix I give myself every chance next Saturday. I have won every class at the meeting except superstock so I’ll have to make up for that blemish. I fancy myself for the superbike races and hopefully I’ll win one of them. You know I’m really looking forward to this and I feel it has been such a poor season as far as I am concerned I really must do better."
Amazingly enough a rider of Martin’s calibre has only managed one win this year and that was at the Southern 100 in the Isle of Man. But he feels full of enthusiasm nowadays and it would be silly to write him off.
He runs what could be called an all-family affair for he is a truck
mechanic by trade taking over from his father who was also similarly involved. But the big story about Martin and his family is that his chief race mechanic is his 21-year-old sister Kate.
"Kate’s a good girl," he told me. "Nothing upsets her even the odd obscenity which we are inclined to utter throughout a hectic race. Kate takes it all in her stride and she’s very good at her job. It’s not just that she’s good for a woman, she’s as good as any man."
Martin’s sister used to be linked with Ian Hutchinson who won the big Belfast Telegraph superbike race at last year’s Ulster but Guy informs me: "All that is off. These things happen."
Martin’s father is aged 61 and now doesn’t get involved in the machinery as he used to but he still lends his support whenever possible.
Martin is obviously one of the favourites at the Ulster and he has a magnificent personality for the big occasion. Talk to him after he’s had a win and you’ll find it hard to keep up the pace. He rattles on to some tune and words flow from him almost as though he were on a racing bike.
Asked about the fact that he seems to be very fast to the eye when racing round Dundrod and he replied: "I don’t feel I’m quick. I just get used to the bike and away I go. The speed in many ways is irrelevant once you get up to a certain figure you just let it happen."
He is conscious of the fact that John McGuinness and Cameron Donald will be the two major obstacles in his way when it comes to winning at Dundrod. "I could mention a dozen people," he said, "but there’s no doubt that McGuinness in particular has the class to take this race by the scruff of the neck."
Ryan Farquhar is the best of the Ulster contingent and Martin recalled: "I remember racing against him in the Mid Antrim 150. It was my second year at the meeting and I spoiled his attempt to win a five-timer after he had lifted the four previous races.
"I like the Mid Antrim circuit and if anyone were to ask me to show them a typical Irish road surface I would take them to the Mid Antrim. It is awesome. "
I asked Martin what he thought was his best performance of his career and he reckoned it was the 2005 Isle of Man TT Senior. "I was third behind McGuinness and Ian Lougher in only my second time there. That was really something."
Martin missed the Scarborough Cock of the North meeting earlier this year because he was at Goodwood on a Honda publicity outing. "I love Scarborough," he said. "I think I have more wins there than anyone else. And I intend to be back for the Shell Gold Cup later in the year. But my focus nows is the Ulster Grand Prix.
