My name is Mechelle Hartin my mother and father established the Armoy motorcycle club along with Bill Kennedy. The club is making great progress and we are glad to see so much interest in the road race going ahead. We would also encourage all of you out there to come along and join the club. This race will be a tribute to the men who made Armoy a famous little village.

This road race will be a fitting tribute and a thankyou to the famous men who once raced the small roads of Armoy but left a legacy in our hearts that will never be forgotten.

I, like a lot of todays riders, am fed up watching our older venues being shut down... the TEMPLE, CARROWDORE etc..

I think its about time, we voiced our displeasure, and stopped sitting around moaning about it, and doing nothing...

This new ARMOY circuit, is the most exciting new thing to hit the N Ireland Road Race scene, since disc brakes..

Lets hope,it marks a new era in Road Racing, which has taken more than its fair share of knocks in the last few seasons....

Go get behind it, and let all the 'nay sayers' see just how great a sport it is, and just how strongly N.Ireland feels about it....

Re:Armoy Races ? 4 Months, 3 Weeks ago
The new article says .... "It was originally thought that the circuit would be based on the 4.2 mile unofficial Dunlop, Robinson and Kennedy practice sessions of the 1970’s. However, plans for the circuit have now been released and the course will run in a clockwise direction starting on Hillside Road, turning right onto Lagge Road and right again onto Glenshesk Road before returning to Hillside Road and over the start and finish line to complete the 3 mile long circuit."

Anyone know what roads the original "4.2 mile unofficial Dunlop, Robinson and Kennedy practice sessions of the 1970’s" were?????

Thanks,

Phil

If enough interest is shown then we could set up an online facility for donations to be made straight to the club.

What about a PG on-line facility.

Good to see so much interest on this thread. Clearly the word "Armoy" is a brand name ? The stories, the exploits of the Armada and the folklore that surrounds those colorful years will contribute towards an "official" bike race back to its spiritual home in north Antrim.

At the end of the day the Armoy area is regarded by many as the cockpit of road racing in Northern Ireland and the marketing potential for such a race could be substantial.

I would guess that everyone on this forum is supportive of the plans. The Armoy race has always been a great vision for many years and the moves to establish a road race course on the country roads once used to test bikes by Joey Dunlop and his mates would be a great boost for the sport.

Its been great to see the increase in the number of road races in the Republic of Ireland but as corserrep already highlighted, there has been a decline for many a reason in meetings in the North and that in itself is a major concern. Northern Ireland needs another race and Armoy would be ideal. Race fans would flock to the Armoy area for a National meeting even a week of activities incorporated around it all could be of commercial value too.

Re:Armoy Races ? 4 Months, 3 Weeks ago
This is worrying me. I'm all in favour of starting new road races, especially in the north. But this race in Armoy which i was all on for at the start is starting to annoy me. For me being a B/money man born and breed and a very good friend of joey, robert and all there families, i think the organisers should lay off the armoy armada crack! This was a subject that was never mentioned around joe as he didn't like it being talked about after the tragedies of Frank and his best friend Mervyn. The armoy armada supporters club had a reunion in joeys pub about 3 years ago with as many members and sponsors etc in attention with great stories and yarns from days gone by. The subject got round about maybe a race being held in armoy(not sure who came up with the idea) in the future which was shot down. I hadn't previously known (til asking an explanation why) that 95% of the members as well as joey and jim had no connections with armoy itself, The name just came about from davy woods when trying to find a reply for the equally famous dromara destroyers when he thought on franks birth place and came about with The armoy armada. So what i'm getting at is the armoy armada is a ballymoney club that all the ex members are under the impression that is being dragged about to bring financial gains to a village that hasn't as much to do with it as it thinks(mervyn and frank aside). I would still be in favour of a road race in armoy or anywhere but only for the right reasons.
