The bike mags are raving about how good the BMW is; 183 bhp at the rear wheel. I would imagine any speed advantage over the competition would make it a potential winner on a fast road course like the NW200.
Should be interesting.
But is this true?
The only comparison graph I've seen is in MCN. All the Jap bikes were putting out around 160 bhp at the rear wheel, the BMW was doing around 180. At first glance this makes the BMW seem mighty, however MCN didn't claim to have tested any bikes on a dyno and they regularly print misleading comparisons, for example kerb Vs claimed weights in the same comparisons making some bikes look lardy when in fact they may be the lightest! They've also printed flywheel and rear wheel outputs on the same graphs which renders them useless.
I'm looking forward to seeing some magazine put all the bikes on the same dyno on the same day for a proper comparison. That's the only way it'll count for anything.
Back to the BMW, just checked their website and they claim
142 kW (190 hp)
112 Nm of torque.
From Kawasaki website, ZX10R
138.3 kW (185 hp)
With Ram air - 147.1 kW (197 hp)
113 Nm of torque.
BMW don't make it clear how they measure their hp figure (With or without RAM air) But going by claimed manufacturer figures then they either make 5 hp more or 7 hp less than a Kawasaki and they have less torque. Excuse me for not being impressed
I reckon its all hype myself and there is no huge leap forward in performance. I didn't see Troy and Ruben slaughtering the Jap bikes/Ducatis on the straights this year
