I can now confirm that the MCUI Commission has agreed to run a Lightweight Championship in 2009. The Championship will carry national status and will run concurrent with the Mini Twins Championship which is run at Irish Superbike events. The re-introduction of the class came about after the Lightweight riders came together and made a request through the Motorcycle Union of Ireland's Ulster Centre Tarmac Committee. It is hoped that time permitting and at the discretion of the promoters, then possibly we will see the Lightweights getting their own grids. The class will be made up of 250cc and 400cc production bikes.
