Nutt grabs Yamaha test opportunity
Newsletter 19 September 07
Marty Nutt has been chosen by the Virgin Media Yamaha team to test their new bike this weekend during the penultimate round of the British Superbike championship at Donington Park.
"The new Yamaha is being developed to comply with new regulations for next season," said 28-year-old Nutt from Castlerock.
He added, "This is an opportunity not to be missed particularly when I need a lot more points if I'm going to make the top-three in the Cup section of the British Superbike series.
"We've had a good working relationship with Yamaha all season and if everything goes well at Donington you never know what that might lead to for 2008.
"My own Yamaha was previously used by the official team which is managed by Rob McElnea. "It will be interesting to see how the new model compares with the bike which I've been riding all year."After Donington it's on to Brands Hatch next month for the final round. I'll be banking on strong finishes at both venues."
Last month Nutt who was a wild-card entry went through the pain barrier to score his first Superbike World Championship point at Brands Hatch.
After qualifying 18th amid world class opposition he was well pleased to finish 15th in the first race at the Kent circuit.
Nutt was in agony due to an injury suffered a fortnight earlier at Mallory Park and decided to skip the second race. Such was the pain at the bottom of his back that he ended the day on crutches!"Thank goodness I'm feeling a lot better now," added Nutt.
"I just hope that I have a smooth run at Donington, I've had too many bike and body incidents in recent months."
