TT races in jeopardy - massive row between between race officials and Govt.

The future of the TT races is serious jeopardy if a rift between the Department of Tourism and the Manx Motor Cycle Club cannot be resolved.

Energy FM revealed on Friday that the Tourism, Minister David Cretney terminated the Clubs contract to run the races, stating that he wanted changes to be made before the contract could be renegotiated. Neither party have indicated what those changes are.

But organising an International race meeting requires officials with the neccessary permits and licences - realistically the Manx Motor Cycle Club are the only organisation with the infrastructure to run the TT safely, most having been part of the original ACU team prior to the Governing body handing over control to the Department of Tourism.

A source within the club told Energy FM that currently - TT 2007 has no organisers - No organisers means no racing.

Notes: The ACU is the Auto Cycle Union, the governing body of motorcycle competition. They ran the TT until 2003 where a 20 year agreemnet was signed to hand over the event to the Manx Government. They in turn contract a recognised ACU Motorclub to operate the race meeting under ACU permit.

from speaking to riders and those involved in the organisation i got that feeling that the new appointment of the TT development officer hasnt worked out that well and got a lot of MMCC ppls backs up.

Allegedly Energy FM have obtained copies of correspondence confirming that the DTL have positvely sacked the MMCC from running the TT in future, they better think again and sort that one out quick, I can't see DC and PP running the TT on their own. You can't run a TT on press release spin and b-s alone you need the longstanding dedicated volunteer work horses or your finished.

If you get to big headed and cocky the grass roots grafters who make it all happen will walk away and leave you to get on with it and wallow in your own stinking mess.

obviously the MMCC will run the TT next year. I dont doubt that as there is noone else who can do it. This dispute must be them using their position of strength to change a few things.

There was meeting of the MMCC called during xmas and new year i was told this was to do with marshals situation but it stands to reason that if the gov gave notice on new years eve then a meeting would have been nessesary.

Why cant cretney and his new puppy leave the races to the aces (MMCC) and busy themselves promoting and developing rather than interfering.

Perhaps they both understand as much about the job they've been given as they do about twirling spanners and riding bikes which is f all! :twisted:
