Farquhar is star of show with hat-trick

Ryan Farquhar seems to have put his TT disappointment firmly behind him in the second part of June.
The Killyman resident added to his four wins from last weekend’s Bush Road Races with a hat-trick yesterday at Athea in west County Limerick.
The Quinn Direct sponsored event attracted the usual 20,000 crowd, almost as many as World Superbikes at Donington Park, and Farquhar didn’t disappoint them. His usual Super Twins victory came on the trusty ER650 Kawasaki and Farquhar followed that up with wins in the Grand Final and Supersport 600 event.
The difficult conditions suited the wet weather specialist and he decimated his rivals in the Supersport class with a 17 second victory over Keith Amor on Wilson Craig’s Honda and Michael Dunlop in third.
Dunlop had enjoyed his own top step in the 250cc Junior class that was run concurrently with the Super Twins event, with Dungannon’s Andrew Neill keeping his rich vein of form running in second place, just ahead of Ballymena’s Barry Davidson.
Farquhar’s Grand Final winner’s cheque was earned easier than he anticipated, with the race red flagged after only three laps due to an incident involving Damien Mulleady. The 36-year-old Longford man was taken to hospital with a suspected broken arm. The organisers had planned on a full race distance re-start, but after a lengthy delay they changed their minds, with two races still to run on the 11 race programme.
With the roads drying up late in the afternoon, Keith Amor took his chance to spoil Farquhar’s 100 per cent record, taking the win in the Open race on his Wilson Craig Honda. Farquhar hounded Amor for the full six laps but the Falkirk man was in no mood for second place this time out and secured victory.
