If you ask me he got off too bloody lightly.
This could so easily have led to the death or serious injuries to riders, marshalls or innocent members of the public. The fact that he is a bike dealer makes it worse as he would obviously be knowledable about the results of hitting something at speed on a bike.
To the biking fraternity of South Wales the message is simple. "Vote with your feet".

I so agree with sentence.... sets a standard, that they should have at all road races, they don't realise that it could be peoples lives in danger !
So pissed off this year at NW200 at so many 'neds' as we call them here, passing me in opposite direction (coming from train station) with HUGE carry-outs of alcopops, wearing 'burberry' caps ...gggrrrrrr !!! absolutely no interest in racing and pissed out their faces by 12pm.... extra workload for marshalls, Police should be more inforce with these assholes !!
Sorry for rambling !!!! Daisy

I thought that in most towns and villages in Northern Ireland there was a ban on public drinking, If I remember correctly there are signs up round Portrush, perhaps with the numbers of spectators at the northwest the PSNI tend to turn a blind eye?

It only takes one plonker as they say. I read earlier in the week the PSNI will be clamping down this summer on the "blue bag brigade" with regards to public drinking. If caught the booze is confiscated......their mini bars in the barracks must have a wide and varied assortment of buckfast. I am not promoting drinking at the races but the licensed bar on the Cookstown circuit at the paddock always appears to be well controlled and the folk outside having a tipple like in previous years were well behaved, friendly and having a good days craic. It was good to see.

I think the problem is enforcing the no drinking in the street laws. Its not illegal to carry it in a bag and for the most part spectators are sitting/standing on private land.
Would be delighted to see the back of the pissheads at the north west - believe me its no fun marshalling when you have to deal with the drunks. We had one at Cookstown in a field at Blacks Farm - fell off the gate into the road on the warm up lap. Was told the racing would be stopped if he didnt move - but i doubt he was bothered he was so off his head. I few spectators nearby offered to take him away and sort him out!! I think that did it.
What can you do?
