Not exactly a topic that wants to be on a forum but I've a big problem with this one. In Ireland as a mark of respect, #8 has been withdrawn in the classes that Richard rode, yet I was told then read that this number is to be used at the TT !!!!. Thought it would have been fitting for the TT this year to have considered withdrawing this number aswell. Its not asking much, its small simple gesture and it would mean alot to many folk in Fermanagh and further afield. Unbelievable.

It could also be seen as riding well in the memory of a fallen comrade/hero. I'm all for the withdrawal of a number of a well respected racer and I fully endorse it. But sometimes the powers that be don't always get the connection and in the haste to get the event underway, the gesture can sometimes get overlooked. Maybe if a rider gets the number of any of the fallen riders that used that number for several years, and the sentiment still stands, the current rider can make a gesture and acknowledge the fallen rider. Just my two cents worth, and I hope that I said it right and don't offend

You lads have very valid points of view and have clearly put it into perspective. Was a big #8 fan, hence my reaction and "blinkered/biased" view on this issue. Tyrewarmer, I think we need to move with the times mate.
