Best Race... 3 Months ago
...on the Isle of Man this year took place yesterday. Thanks to all the competitors for making in so exiting. It just shows how far the TT has to go to even match the Manx GP. They are light years behind the entertainment that was on offer yesterday:

- Starting in pairs meaning there was a race for the lead on the road
- 103 starters
- A race that started at 5.30PM
- A race in conditions that were imperfect (meaning that the organizers were prepared to run in cnditions that would not necessaily produce 130MPH laps)
- Areas between the grandstand and Ramsey in which you can actually spectate
- Some fans!

When you see how it should be done I am firmly in the "2008 TT was NOT the best ever" camp! Looking forward to Friday.

I agree; this made it especially exciting and as we know would be impossible to occur at the TT. It added a lot to the race until the unfortunate incident on the last lap but hopefully he will be ok.

The MMCC havw always got it right but don't blame the TT always got it right until the Politicians,Civil Servant idiots and Japanese manufacturers got control of it and the TT became a bug business solely for the ouepose of making money and merchanding products and ut ceased to be a sport.

As the OP states.

Every race could have up to 120 starters.
All competitors were started in pairs
No obsessuin with new lap records The idea wasto win at the slowest possible speeds even world champions and works riders Hailwood, Redmond, Taveri Hocking Duke,Ubialli. The reason was to give the lads, no lasses in those days a chance of winning a replica.

The TT was the equal of the MGP until greed took control and destroyed it in fact it the race that all mgp riders aspired to/
gor those who are still in nappies the TT did run 8 lap races breifly and a ten lap ptoduction Le Mans style that was a Massed star 250s 500s and 750s were you ran across rge road and the whole lot went down Bray Hill in a bunch together 750s went first a few minutes after 500s then the 250s bwlueve me it was an awesome experience to go through St Ninians at the start of the first lap with 50 riders three, four five abreast
and nose to tail. The machines were absolutely bog stand fitted with lights silencers and rear tail lights and road legal number plates and only road tyre wre allowed. AND THE 750S AND 500S WERE CAPABLE OF UVER 100 MPH LAPS BY THAT i DON'T MEAN ALL RIDERS.

Please don't misunderstand me and think I am knocking the Manx it has always been th equal of the TT and now is far superior in fact many years ago it could be far tougher because it was run later in the year and it colder and the roads would often be cover in wet leaves and your boots were filled with water bedore you got to Quarter Bridge on the first lap.

In the Great days of the TT world champions and works riders like Hailwood Taveri, Redmond, Duke Agostini, Pasolini etc would all slow the pace if they were leading by a big margin and win at the slowest speed to give the midfieldrs a chance of a Replca.

Today the Manx is the greatest race and the TT is a shadow of it's former self but it was not always like that.

No doubt a lot will believe this is a spoof post but as many will know it to be fact.

Sadly I cnnot get to the TT or the MGP anymore and enjoy the fun of of lining up at the Grandstand to push off to have a great day at the office or spectate and watch the finest sportsmen in the world performing their days works because I am nearly blind and incapable of travel

So sad to hear of John Goodalls hntimely demise my heartfelt sympathu to all his fanily, friends and spanner men. So many great friends and friends and fellow riders have past under the chequered flag before there time/

But we should celebrate Johns life, one of us old age pensioners nearly 70 yeara old and still doing the job better than the young bloods an apprentices to the craft.

Good luck to all who dream of racing in Ellan Vannin, do it you will never regret it I never did
