Re:Temple 100 Road Races 6 Months, 1 Week ago
The Temple was a nightmare and more of a motorcross track than a road race. There was a run of 4 consecutive jumps on one section and sometimes a rider would get off line on the first jump and by the fourth he would be up the road on his arse. The rollercoaster was a drop into hell where many a rider flipped his bike over and into the field. The place where Ian King was killed and Brian Reid seriously injured was a really narrow run to the final corner just after the rollercoaster. Martin Berkinshaw was killed there the previous year. Ian would have been ok if the road was wider as he was hit while trying to get up off the road I was told. Around the back the circuit was so tight that I thought I was going up someones driveway when I did my first lap. Far outlived it's use.

It was wider in most places than the Skerries or Killalane, --- well just about.
Declan, did you ever get that tape tranferred?

Eddie, the Temple was a cracking circuit, and one that I enjoyed every time I rode there.

What you saw was what you got, and it was up to us how we rode it.

I realise that Larry, and it's the same for road racing in general. But of all the circuits that were going to suffer as bikes got bigger and faster, I feel The Temple was at the top of the pile. I remember the jumps well, Brian Reid on the Budweiser Yams, Ian King vertical, Leslie McMasters immaculate 350, RJ etc. Great stuff. I have a shot somewhere of Lougher coming over the rollercoaster in a bib (very careful).

Hi Mitchwebster52 i have added a Video to YouTube.co.uk " On board Lap Temple 100 " .The Video would have been better if i had another bike to follow, But it might give you an idea of what it was like .I hit a top speed of 60 m.p.h. in a few places so not quick at all compaired to the Riders who Raced there.I have not got a clue how to put a link on this page Hope this helps Fw750x

Nice one SCRZ. A bit less agricultural than I remembered. But at 3.10 is the bit I where remember thinking I was driving into a farmers yard. The hedge is still the same.
