Temple 100 Road Races 9 Months, 1 Week ago
Not TT Related But Definately Road Racing!

Does Anybody Have A Map, If Not, Could Anybody Draw A Map Of The Old Temple 100 Road Race Circuit?

A Brief Description Would Also Be Good, As I Have No Idea Where It Was!

I Myself Am From England, But My Grandparents Are From Larne In Co. Antrim, And I Lived In Holywood In Co. Down For 2 Years.

Cheers For That, Will See If I Can Find Out More, Like A Circuit Map

Its The Only Old Road Race I Don't Have A Map For

I Know Of A Book Named White Line Fever - A History Of Irish Roas Racing... I Am Going To Give That A Try I Think

Go to Google maps and enter 54.461467, -5.842111 as location this is were the start was, going clockwise along the Lisburn Road, turn right onto Drumalig Road, right again onto Oughley Road, right onto Old Belfast Road back to the hairpin at Lisburn Road.
It all looks very flat from the satelite, but is far from flat.

Cheers, scrz

Yeah The Course Certainly Looks Fun To Ride, All I Have About The Temple 100 Is A Newspaper Report From The Races Back In '99. The Picture Shows Robert Dunlop What Looks To Be Just Coming From Down A Slop, And He's About To Turn Right.

I Remember In The Article, Owen McNally Saying That He Would Never Race There Again Unless The Course Was Made Safer. Unfortunately He Never Had The Chance. RIP.

Wouldn't Mind Seeing An Onboard Lap. I Doubt Such Footage Even Exists Now Though, Which Is A Shame.

Anybody Know Why The Races Were Scrapped? Just Due To Safety?

Hi,
I have some BBC footage on tape of the Temple 100 in 1998. If I can get it copied on to DVD you would be very welcome to a copy. So if you PM me your address etc I'll see what I can do.

Ian King was fatily injured in 1994,Brian Reid was badly injured in the same accident, this put an end to his racing career.
A few chicanes were put in to slow the riders down, I think the clerk of the course Sam McBride paid for most this himself (I amy be wrong and would welcome corrections)
In 1999 Philip Conroy was killed, Phillip lived on the course.
The club tried to get a new course at Magheraknock near Ballynahinch but could not get agreement from the residents to have the road widened. It dragged on for while looking for a new course but in the end I think Sam McBride's heart wasn't in it.

Re:Temple 100 Road Races 8 Months, 4 Weeks ago
The official reason for the Carrowdore not being run was the task force ruling on practicing the day before the race. The roads would've had to been closed from early Friday afternoon to Friady evening and as the race run through the village it would have caused too much inconvience to the residents. A new shorter course was looked at, but the road would have needed widening, with this and the insurance the club would have been left with a big debt.
