The group behind plans to bring road racing back to its Armoy roots has approached the Ballymoney and Moyle councils regarding funding for the venture.

The Armoy Motorcycle Road Racing Club requires £8,000 to get up and running properly and has made a request to both bodies to shelve out £4,000 each.

Chairperson of the club, Bill Kennedy, penned a letter to Moyle Council outlining the aims and objectives of the body. Also included was a development plan, a section of which read – “The club hopes to secure from, and involve, the local community, councils, government agencies and other race organisers”.

Moyle Council chair Madeline Black said she believed that members should support the request sighting the potential financial benefits to local tourisim which such a race could bring.

Here is an idea. This site has between 800 and 900 users. If the club needs £8000 to get the show on the road why don't we all send a cheque for a measely £10 to admin to try and secure this venture. I suggest if admin is up for this and provide an address and a cheque payable too, cheques should be sent and post dated the 1st of september 2008. This will allow time to see if this is possible to happen and if not, payments can be disposed of, and so cost no one anything. Possibly this site could be the 1st years sponsor. I think it would be a great tribute to MERVYN ROBINSON, FRANK KENNEDY and JOEY DUNLOP if this could happen. Please let me know what you's think and if an address is made known i will send a cheque right away.P.s you cannot rely on district councils to provide funds for anything.

We have just under 1000 registered users but our readership is in fact much larger. It's hard to put an accurate figure on it.

If enough interest is shown then we could set up an online facility for donations to be made straight to the club.
